In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to create old, chippy, timeworn backgrounds paired with a dimensional wood heart finished in rich layers of color, texture, and faux rust patina. This class is all about embracing imperfection and letting texture, age, and process tell the story.

We’ll begin by building beautifully distressed backgrounds using DIY Clay Paint, layered colors, and expressive techniques to achieve that perfectly tattered, aged look. You’ll learn how to create depth and movement through intentional distressing, scraping, and layering.

Next, we’ll focus on the heart itself. Using a pre-made wood heart, you’ll add texture with paint, tools, and pallet knives before bringing it to life with layered color and patina. I’ll be sharing my secret faux rust technique 🤫 to create warm, gritty, oxidized effects — no real rust…
